HAPPY DIWALI

Sehar explains us about DIWALI, the Festival of Lights, an important Indian festival.

People in India and Nepal celebrate Diwali to mark the end of Hindu calendar year. Diwali is a national holiday in India and Nepal. The Diwali celebrations last for 5 days. This year Diwali celebrates from 2nd to 6th November.

Many countries around the world hold multicultural events to mark the holiday. During Diwali, people light lamps and pray for good health, peace and wisdom. They clean their homes and decorate their doorways with pictures made with painted rice or coloured powder called Rangoli.

Our language assistant Sehar has made a Rangoli in the school.

Children light fireworks, we have decorated the hall hanging Diwali lamps made by students of 3rd year. And Rangoli coloured by students of 1st year.

Adults buy new clothes, gifts and sweets for their family and friends. The fourth day of Diwali marks the start of the new year, what is the most important day of the festival. People pray to Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess for wealth and prosperity in the coming year.
